Bentley Derby (1936-1939). - Lot 2002
Bentley Derby (1936-1939). The Bentley of Jacques and Yvette Kupélian. Jacques and Yvette bought this Bentley Derby in England in May 1969 from a man named Peter Blair Richley in Ashford (Kent). The latter took out a provisional insurance policy "Benelux" valid for 10 days and delivered the car to them on May 25, 1969. According to the "Registration Book" which still accompanies the vehicle, he is the fourth owner. Our Bentley is then registered CAK 820. Once the customs clearance procedures were completed, the car received its Belgian registration in the name of Jacques Kupélian on May 26, 1970, and it never left this registration during the 52 years that followed. The couple will use it regularly, taxes and insurances are paid until the beginning of the years 2000, the most recent document mentions a tax of rolling paid in June 2005.In the course of the year 1970, the couple decides to begin various works of bodywork. The affair with a first body builder (see the report of André Milhoux, expert commissioned in December 1970) ends well, the work is taken over by a new craftsman, the Luyckfasseel body shop, which gives the Bentley back all its lustre. 50 years later, this Derby still looks great, it has of course taken on a patina, its original black dress (according to the Registration book) is now a dark blue and bears some of the marks of age. The ochre leather interior is in very good condition except for the headliner. The car is complete as Park Ward had dressed the B.201.KU chassis, delivered by Bentley on November 11, 1937 and with the body finished on February 1, 1938, as confirmed by a Rolls-Royce document dated October 1969.This Bentley Derby has come down to us preserving its original chassis, engine and bodywork, kept in a dry and sheltered place for 52 years This powerful car should not be asked to take the road again after the necessary verifications. Bentley "Derby" 4 liters 1/4 (production 1936-1939, about 1230 examples manufactured). This is a larger and more powerful version of the 3.5-liter Bentley.First registration: February 18, 1938.Chassis: B.20.1.KU (delivered to the coachbuilder Park Ward on November 11, 1937).Engine: J-9-BDX.Body: Sport Saloon by Park Ward.
